San Marin Football Wraps Up a Great Year!
The San Marin Mustangs football team entered the 2018 season with a young and eager team bolstered by lofty goals: Win an MCAL Pennant, an NCS Championship Pennant, and an NCS Scholastic Pennant. The young Mustangs matured quickly during early-season non-league play and weathered an early setback against League foe Terra Linda to capture a share of the MCAL pennant (behind a dominant effort against Redwood and a thrilling come-from-behind victory in the waning seconds versus Tamalpais). Bolstered by their successful League campaign, they began the playoffs as the 4th seeded team, earning a 1st round bye. Their first playoff game, and epic home-field thriller against St. Bernard’s of Eureka, was a game that Mustang’s fans and players will not soon forget. The Mustang’s season ended on the field the following week, when they fell in now typical exciting fashion to 1st seed Moreau Catholic of Hayward in a game whose outcome was not decided until the final 9 seconds. Soon after, the Mustangs learned that they had achieved the highest cumulative GPA (3.20) of any D4 NCS football team, earning them the Scholastic pennant that they sought. The Mustangs also had 12 players selected to the All-MCAL team for individual excellence. It was a season of tremendous growth and has everyone involved in the program looking forward to building another great run in 2019.
